Abstract

La génesis de un símbolo: Isabel la Católica en el teatro reaccionario español de la década de 1930

The image of Isabel I of Castile was very used by the Franco regime in order to symbolize a united, catholic and imperial Spain. The origins of this interested articulation of the queen must be sought in Santa Isabel de España and La mejor Reina de España , two reactionary plays of the Thirties respectively written by Mariano Tomás and Luis Rosales and Luis Felipe Vivanco (coauthored). These plays would endow the Nationalists with a fundamental element for the construction of an ideology that allowed them to justify their actions.

Luis Martín Estudillo si è laureato in filologia alla Universidad de Alicante e ha conseguito il Master presso quella del Minnesota, dove insegna letteratura e storia della cultura spagnola. Dirige la rivista di poesia Ex Libris ed è membro della redazione degli Hispanic Issues e della Biblioteca Crítica Luso-Hispánica. Il suo lavoro più recente è Libertad y límites. El Barroco hispánico.
