Abstract

How did women participate in the transition to democracy in Spain? Franco’s regime assigned to women the role of guardians of the home and made their process of political socialisation difficult during the dictatorship. But when the process of transition to democracy began, they became protagonists and an active subject. Where does this socio-political background come from? This article deals with the socialisation of women and the overcoming of the role that Francoism had assigned to women through two social movements in Galicia and traces those spaces through which women’s mobilisation emerged.

    Fátima Martínez Pazos è ricercatrice post-dottorato presso il Dipartimento di Storia Sociale e Pensiero Politico dell’Università Nazionale di Istruzione a Distanza (UNED). È autrice di numerose pubblicazioni inerenti la storia dei movimenti sociali dell’ultimo quarto del secolo XX, con particolare attenzione alla Transizione spagnola e per i movimenti di quartiere in Galizia. Nell’attualità studia le mobilitazioni delle madri in una prospettiva comparata, come nella sua ultima pubblicazione: Madres en movimiento: la maternidad en el activismo social, “Memoria Y Civilización”, n. 28, 2025.
